Scribe (by Descript)

Scribe is not a separate Descript application or subscription. Descript uses the name Scribe v2 for its default transcription model across supported languages.

The model operates inside Descript, an audio and video editor that lets users transcribe recordings, edit media by changing transcript text, record screens and cameras, create captions, and publish finished content.

Descript supports creators, podcasters, educators, marketers, and teams producing instructional or social content. Its workflow combines a document-style editor with a conventional timeline.

Descript automatically transcribes imported or recorded media and assigns speaker labels. Users can edit audio and video by deleting, rearranging, or rewriting transcript text.

The platform includes screen, camera, microphone, and remote recording options. Screen recordings can include computer audio on desktop, while browser recording supports audio from a selected tab.

AI tools include filler-word removal, Studio Sound, dynamic captions, voice cloning, text-to-speech, translation, dubbing, clip creation, and the Underlord AI co-editor.

The main trade-off is metered usage. Media minutes and AI credits limit activity by plan, and some advanced features require higher subscriptions or additional usage.

The API remains in beta, and direct local media-file export is not currently available through the API. Users must publish projects or complete some exports manually.

Riverside is a comparable choice for remote recording and podcast production. VEED and Kapwing provide browser-based video editing, captions, and social content workflows. Adobe Premiere Pro offers deeper professional timeline editing, while Camtasia focuses on screen recording and instructional video production.

For transcription-focused workflows, Otter.ai and Trint are more specialized alternatives. They do not provide the same complete combination of text-based media editing, screen recording, and publishing.
