Sophos Intercept X is the former name for Sophos’s business endpoint protection portfolio. Sophos began removing the Intercept X name from its endpoint branding in 2025, with the current baseline product marketed as Sophos Endpoint.
The software protects workstations and servers against malware, ransomware, exploit techniques, malicious traffic and risky applications. Administrators manage policies, alerts, investigations and remediation through Sophos Central, which is evolving into Sophos Fusion.
Current Sophos Endpoint coverage includes Windows, macOS and Linux. Related Sophos Mobile products extend security and management to Android devices, iPhones and iPads.
Sophos Endpoint uses deep-learning malware prevention to identify known and previously unseen malicious files before execution. Its behavior analysis also examines process, file, registry and memory activity.
CryptoGuard detects malicious file encryption and can restore affected files. Remote ransomware protection covers encryption attempts originating from compromised network-connected devices.
The product includes more than 60 documented exploit mitigations, Adaptive Attack Protection, malicious traffic detection, web protection, application control, tamper protection and device isolation workflows.
Higher-tier EDR and XDR capabilities support threat hunting, investigation and response. XDR can combine telemetry from endpoints, servers, firewalls, email, cloud and other connected security products.
Sophos does not publish a standard public price for the current Sophos Endpoint product. Its official sales process provides a customized quote based on the organization’s requirements and deployment scope.
Sophos offers a 30-day, no-obligation trial of Sophos Endpoint. The trial is initiated through the Sophos Central account or the vendor’s trial registration page.
Earlier Intercept X licensing used subscription products such as Intercept X Advanced and Intercept X for Server. Sophos announced that Intercept X Essentials reached end of sale, while the portfolio moved to Sophos Endpoint naming.
Pros: Sophos combines prevention, exploit mitigation and ransomware protection in one managed agent. Sophos Central provides centralized policy, alert and device administration. The broader ecosystem supports firewall, email, mobile, cloud and SIEM integrations.
Cons: Public pricing is unavailable, so buyers generally need a partner or sales quotation. Larger deployments may require careful rollout planning. Some independent reviewers report interface, documentation and setup concerns.
Comparable products include Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, CrowdStrike Falcon, SentinelOne Singularity, Trend Vision One, VMware Carbon Black Cloud and Bitdefender GravityZone.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint fits organizations standardized on Microsoft security and identity services. CrowdStrike Falcon and SentinelOne Singularity focus strongly on cloud-managed endpoint detection and response. Bitdefender GravityZone offers endpoint protection with centralized policy management across business environments.
